Cathy Curley with our local United Way's Stuff the Bus school supplies drive described the positive impact on less fortunate children and youth in Texarkana area schools when backpacks of supplies are provided to them upon entry into the new school year. Many of our community's families would otherwise struggle to provide their children with required school supplies.
Our Wilbur Smith Rotary Club was excited to present Cathy with a monetary donation to help cover the cost of school supplies and backpacks, and will also help to stuff backpacks with supplies in a couple of weeks.
If you know anyone who would like to donate, drop off locations over the next couple of weeks are Fat Jacks, Hopkins Icehouse, and the United Way office at 214 Spruce St. Additional drop off locations include Sonic on Arkansas Blvd. this coming Saturday (Aug. 1) from 10-2 and the Arkansas Blvd. Super Walmart (out front). The following weekend (Aug. 8), supplies can be dropped off from 10-2 at the TX side Super Walmart (out front) and Sonics on 7th St. & Summerhill Rd. Supplies needed are construction & looseleaf notebook paper, spiral & composition notebooks, folders with pockets and brads, 1" binders, 3-ring dividers, 24 count crayons, washable markers, colored pencils, bottles & sticks of glue, pencil sharpeners, blunt & pointed scissors, wedge pink & pencil cap erasers, highlighters, pencils, black/blue/red pens, and backpacks.
