The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life;
  • The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The Texarkana Wilbur Smith Club Rotarian of the Year is someone that has lived up to those objectives, and through their dedication and effort has exceeded the expectations of club membership through their commitment of time, energy and sacrifice. Because of this person’s efforts, the Texarkana Wilbur Smith Rotary Club and community have benefited greatly during the past year.

This year's Texarkana Wilbur Smith Club Rotarian of the Year is Mr. Charlie Bassett. Charlie was nominated by the club officers for his outstanding service and commitment. A former Club President, Charlie has been the Treasurer for "a very long time". In addition to sincere gratitude of the membership, Charlie also received a very nice plaque during the June 26th meeting.
